NORTHLO SOFTWARE CONSULTING DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS, SEX-OFFENDER CHECKS, OR IDENTITY VERIFICATION OF VID8 MEMBERS. We confirm a date of birth at sign-up, review photos and videos before they are shown, and act on reports, but we cannot confirm that anyone is who they say they are. You are responsible for your own safety and for deciding whom to talk to and meet. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (911 in Canada and the United States) before contacting us.

Before you talk to anyone

  • Keep it on Vid8. Stay in Vid8 chat and Spark Meets until you trust someone. Scammers push to move to text, email, WhatsApp, or other apps quickly.
  • Never send money or financial information. Do not send cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or card, banking, or ID details to anyone you met online — no matter the story (stranded traveller, medical emergency, investment, “just until payday”). Report anyone who asks.
  • Protect your personal details. Do not share your home or work address, daily routine, government ID, workplace name, or children’s details in your profile, video, or early conversations. Choose a neutral background for your introduction and Spark Meets.
  • Watch for warning signs. Be wary of people who claim to be overseas or unreachable, profess love very quickly, refuse to take a Spark Meet, ask lots of questions but answer few, have stories that do not add up, or pressure you for anything.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, you do not owe anyone a reply. Release them from your Roster, block, or report.

During a Spark Meet

  • It ends at 30 seconds, automatically. A Spark Meet is an introduction, not a commitment. You can leave early at any time.
  • Assume you can be seen and heard. Vid8 does not record meets and forbids members from recording them, but we cannot control another person’s device or who is in the room with them. Recording without the legally required consent may be a crime.
  • Do not join while driving. Use Spark Meets only when you can give them your attention safely.
  • Keep it appropriate. Nudity, sexual behaviour, and harassment are prohibited and reportable. If someone crosses a line, leave and report them from the meet screen.
  • Your vote is private. A “Not now” never sends a rejection notification. No one can see how you voted.

If you decide to meet in person

  • Video first. Take at least one Spark Meet so you know the person matches their profile.
  • Meet in public. Choose a busy, well-lit public place for the first few meetings. Do not meet at your home or theirs, and do not get picked up.
  • Tell someone. Tell a friend or family member where you are going, whom you are meeting, and when you expect to be back. Share your location with them if you can.
  • Control your own transportation. Drive yourself or arrange your own ride so you can leave whenever you want.
  • Stay clear-headed. Keep your drink with you and know your limits. Do not leave your belongings unattended.
  • Leave if you need to. You do not need a reason. Your safety comes first.

Tools you have

  • Block. Blocking someone removes you both from each other’s Discover and Rosters, closes any conversation, and ends a live meet. They are not notified.
  • Report. Use the report action on any profile, conversation, or meet. Choose the closest reason — spam, scam, harassment, inappropriate content, fake profile, underage, threats, or other — and add detail so our team can act quickly. Reports are confidential.
  • Chat preferences. Control who can open a chat with you (for example, only people you have added to your Roster).
  • Hide your profile. Turn off discoverability any time to take a break without deleting your account.
  • Sessions. Review and sign out of devices from your security settings.

If someone recorded you or shared intimate images

Recording a Spark Meet or sharing another member’s photos, video, or intimate images without consent violates our Terms and may be illegal. Report the account to us immediately. You can also seek help from StopNCII.org, the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (cybercivilrights.org), or, in Canada, NeedHelpNow.ca. If you are in danger, contact the police.

If you think someone is under 18

Vid8 is for adults only. Report the profile in the app or email support@northlo.ca immediately. Do not attach images of the person to your report unless we ask. We report apparent child sexual exploitation to the authorities as the law requires.

Getting help

To report a member, use the in-app report action or email support@northlo.ca. If you are the victim of a crime, contact your local police; we cooperate with law enforcement and can preserve account records when we receive a valid request.
